After a full year of delay, Frontier finally revealed the official date when we will be able to get our hands on fleet carriers!

With Gamescom 2019 in full bloom, Frontier spilled the details around the highly anticipated fleet carriers and the future update to Elite: Dangerous.

As expected, these huge ships will be purchasable ingame with a large amount of credits, but unlike hinted so far – it turns out they will be available to each commander, not just squadrons. The current limit is one fleet carrier per commander which will enable even solo players to buy them and reap the benefits.

They will have a total of 16 landing pads composed of 8 large, 4 medium and 4 small ones which the owner gets to set the permissions for other to dock at.

All fleet carriers feature rearm, refuel and repair services while the owning commanders can choose a number of different loadouts governing services/module and ship availability to support a number of different activities such as:

  • Bounty Hunter
  • Mercenary
  • Pirate
  • Trader
  • Smuggler
  • Miner
  • Explorer
  • Search and Rescue

As with current megaships, the jumprange on fleet carriers is set to 500 LY per jump and the ability to schedule jumps from the galaxy map itself. To be able to make a jump, commanders will need a unique resource to fuel the carrier. More info on this will be provided closer to release.

Fleet carriers are planned to be patched in December 2019.
