EVE: Online - Ascension trailer and release date
The time for New Eden to open its gates to all capsuleers is almost here! The next major expansion will be live on November 15th and CCP released another epic trailer to show off their movie making skills.
With the upcoming patch, all players (new and old) will be able to log into the game and play free forever (or at least until CCP shuts down their servers). I already made a post explaining how things will work with new Alpha/Omega clone states, but here’s another rundown of the expansion features to come.
Cloning scientists in New Eden have been hard at work with the aim of bolstering their military capability of capsuleers for use by the Empires. In the process, they’ve developed a new method of cloning that revolves around two new clone states, Alpha and Omega.
Omega clones will be familiar to all current pilots, and will operate just like a subscribed character does today. Alpha clones will be accessible for free, without subscription, and will be capable of training an assigned set of skills themed to a character’s race.
The skill set that Alpha Clones can train is race specific to the character that is training, and includes skills for flying tech one frigates, destroyers and cruisers, and for basic access to trading and industry.
Structures: Engineering Complexes
EVE Online: Ascension will see the introduction of a new class of player built structure: Engineering Complexes.
This set of structures adds Industrial capability to the new types of structures that players are able to build and maintain, complementing the Citadels in the eco-systems that players are able to create within New Eden. Added variety of hulls and additional functionality grants players more purpose in space, more reason to engage with this new system, and with each other.
Revised New Player Experience
With EVE Online: Ascension, the first phase of a revised new player experience will bring the first hours of a capsuleer’s time in space to life more than ever before, with a new introduction to EVE Online’s most fundamental mechanics. This journey will be guided by a fully voice acted pilot mentor who will take fresh capsuleers through their steps into the vast cosmos of New Eden.
Command Bursts will completely replace the existing Warfare Link system. These new high-slot modules can be fitted to any ship that can currently fit Warfare Links, and allow any ship fitted with these modules to boost their fleet members, within a specific area in space. Once applied, these boosts will continue even if you go out of range of the boosting ship, or warp, or the boosting ship dies.
Command Bursts are high-slot modules that can be fitted to the same classes of ships that can currently fit Warfare Links. There are five types of Command Burst module: Armour, Shield (formerly known as Siege), Information, Skirmish, and Mining. They must be loaded with charges, and this charge choice will determine which bonus the module applies to fleet members. Charges can be swapped in the field, but long reload times mean the timing and choices of a boosting pilot is important.
Fleet Boosts no longer ruled by Hierarchy
Boosting pilots will need only be fitted with the Command Burst modules to be able to boost any members of their fleet in range. The boosts applied to fleets are no longer tied to the boosting ship's position in fleet - any fleet member can provide bonuses to any fleetmate that is within range. More pilots can now be fielded with the ability to help their fellow fleet members, and they will be able to change the type of boosts they give during combat, as the situation around them changes. The idea is to see what the capsuleers of New Eden do with this more engaging and active fleet gameplay.
Planning the perfect ship is easier now that you can see it all laid out before you. The Fitting Simulator lifts restrictions so that you can experiment with ships and modules that you currently aren't trained for or don't even own. It's the in-game ship building simulation that combat pilots, explorers and industrialists have been waiting for!
Tactical Destroyers Balance Pass
With the release of EVE Online: Ascension, CCP will be taking a look at tactical destroyers by making a balance pass that levels the playing field a little more.
Most of the changes coming are a direct result of the incredibly constructive discussion that CCP had with both Council of Stellar Management delegates, and members of the player focus group that was formed to look into the usage and balance of Tactical Destroyers.
Effect Generators for Titans
Titans will be receiving a special new Effect Generator capability that replaces their current passive bonuses. Titan pilots will be able to fit these new modules (one per race) that warp the fabric of reality across a very large area of effect. Unlike Command Bursts, Effect Generators affect ALL ships within their defined area (friend or foe).
New Visual Feedback
The new Command Burst system will ensure multiple layers of feedback so everyone involved can understand the situation. Command Bursts will have a clear visual effect indicating the area in which ships will receive the buff, Combat logs will state how many pilots have been affected, and the "effects bar" will indicate when you are receiving a buff, and from where.
Explosion & Wreck Renovation
With the arrival of EVE Online: Ascension, CCP’s audio and graphics team have been hard at work with a complete redesign of the explosion system in EVE, in order to compliment the recently introduced visual damage system.
Regardless of whether you’re on the receiving end or not, you can now sit back, relax, and wait for the bang. In addition to this, the team have also been hard at work renovating wrecks too, in order to ensure that they better represent ship wreckage, and fit more seamlessly into the new visual damage and explosion systems.
Capital Ship Rebalance - Rorqual
The Rorqual is finally coming into its own, with additional modules unique to this hull and Giant Mining Drones to enhance this Resource Gathering behemoth.
With additional functionality unique to this hull, and a compliment of specialized mining drones, the Rorqual is about to become an industrial force to be reckoned with.
Pulse Activated Nexus Invulnerability Core
This new module represents one of the many optional tools available to Rorqual pilots after the November release. This module can be used to make yourself and your industrial allies invulnerable for a limited time if needed for any reason.
New Character Sheet
This winter brings the arrival of an all new character sheet to streamline the display of character information and allow both old and new pilots alike to more easily distinguish between Alpha and Omega clone features.
With more clarity on skill training requirements, progress and progression, as well as a simpler overview of the skill queue and easier management and display of skill training, the introduction of this new character sheet will put character development more firmly in the hands of pilots than ever before.
More Activity in Asteroid Belts
As part of the process of making New Eden feel more exciting, vibrant and alive, more non-capsuleer activity will be introduced to the world of EVE with the November expansion.
The first stage of this will non-capsuleer resource gathering operations in asteroid belts, introducing new opportunities for interaction with the various factions in New Eden.
Of course, with industrial operation comes security, so don’t be surprised if these seemingly harmless mining operations decide to call in reinforcements, should pilots attempt to lay waste to them.
