Elite: Dangerous patch 2.1 postponed
The next major patch for Horizons (2.1) called "Engineers" was set for release later this month but has been postponed for at least 2 more months. The highlights of the update were the new NPCs with actual portraits (generated using the same character creation tool players get later this year), new looting and crafting systems, and the overhauled mission system.
In a recent interview David Braben mentioned how they don't like how grindy Elite has become in some aspects so the team is working on major changes that will re-think how some of the mechanics are applied.
At this time, we can only speculate how will the late release of patch 2.1 reflect on the other updates to the Horizon season, but David assured us there won't be any other noticeable delays because there are several teams working on the upcoming patches that are scheduled for later this year.

I don't think FD ever said 2.1 would release later this month. I am happy to be corrected if wrong.

I really prefer them to iron out the possible bugs and errors before releasing stuff. We all know how most of their patches end up adding new features and messing up most of them. This sounds like a smart move.
